Why
I am a Doctor of Chiropractic
-
Because I
honor the inborn potential of everyone to be truly healthy.
-
Because
I desire to help the newborn, the aged and those without hope.
-
Because I
choose to care for the patient with the disease, not the disease.
-
Because I
wish to assist rather than intrude; to free rather than control.
-
Because I
seek to correct the cause, not its effect.
-
Because I
know doctors do not heal, only the body can heal itself.
-
Because I
have been called to serve others.
-
Because
I want to make a difference.
-
Because everyday
I get to witness miracles.
-
Because I
know it is right.

Dr. Steven R. Skaggs, DC, CCIC
Dr. Skaggs’ attitude towards healthcare is unique, simple and practical. Dr Skaggs was first introduced to Chiropractic medicine while working on the railroad for an injury to the lower back. Dr. Skaggs retired from the Santa Fe Railroad to pursue his desire to serve those in need. Dr. Skaggs’ understudies were at Park College at Parkville, MO. He graduated Cum Laude with his Doctorate in Chiropractic from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City in August in 1994. He purchased Bay Chiropractic, an established chiropractic practice since 1956 located in Joplin, Missouri in January of the following year and has been in private practice in Joplin since that time. Since graduation, Dr. Skaggs has completed extensive course work in traumatic brain injuries and traumatic injuries of the cervical spine at The Spinal Research Institute of San Diego. He has earned additional certifications with the State of Missouri and is a certified chiropractic insurance consultant. Dr. Skaggs was awarded The Alumni of the Year Award from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City in 2007. He has conducted visiting lectures at Pittsburg State University, and Southwest Missouri State. Dr. Skaggs is married with two sons, Kayle and Shane.
Skaggs Chiropractic is a proud member of the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce, and has been nominated for the small business of the year award for three years in a row. The business was a finalist in the nominations for 2010 and 2011. His favorite quote is from the late actor Danny Thomas, “A man should not be remembered for his accomplishments, his accolades or his accumulation of wealth. But for what he did for his fellow mankind.”
