Dr. Steven Skaggs, a Chiropractic Physician, the son of a WWII US Army veteran, was born and raised in Amarillo, Texas. I graduated from Caprock High School in 1974. I was heavily influenced by members of my family and close friends that were in the medical field. Retired from the Santa Fe Railroad in 1991 in Topeka, Kansas to follow a dream of becoming a physician. I have a unique philosophy about healthcare. While the human body is complex and complicated, healthcare doesn't have to be. I received my first chiropractic adjustment after injuring my back while working on the railroad. I retired from the Santa Fe Railroad to pursue my dreams of working for myself and to serve those in need. I studied were at Park College at Parkville, MO. I graduated Cum Laude with my Doctorates in Chiropractic from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City in August in 1994. In January 1995, I purchased Bay Chiropractic, an established chiropractic practice since 1956, then relocating my family to Joplin, and have been in private practice in Joplin since that time. Since graduation, I have completed extensive course work in traumatic brain injuries and traumatic injuries of the cervical spine from The Spinal Research Institute of San Diego, under the direction of Dr. Art Croft. I have earned additional certifications with the State of Missouri and I am a Certified Chiropractic Insurance Consultant. I have been honored by Cleveland Chiropractic College and awarded The Alumni of the Year Award from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City in 2007. I have conducted extensive research in the area of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). I am a member of the International Hyperbaric Medical Foundation (IHMF) & was recently appointed to the Executive Board of Directors. I have conducted visiting lectures at Pittsburg State University, Cleveland Chiropractic College and Southwest Missouri State.
Dr. Skaggs was recently honored by the Joplin Regional Business Journal in it's 2015 Salute to Healthcare.
Skaggs Chiropractic is a proud member of the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce, and has been nominated for the small business of the year award for four years in a row and again in 2014 & 2016. The business was a finalist in the nominations for 2010, 2011and 2013.
My favorite quote is from the late actor Danny Thomas, “A man should not be remembered for his accomplishments, his accolades or his accumulation of wealth. But for what he did for his fellow mankind.”
